5 months is plenty of time, especially with that much time to devote. What is your target score.

If you want to be efficient, you should follow a study program. It's easy to spend lots of time working on the GMAT if you aren't organized. Get a prep course or nice self study plan so you are efficiently preparing for the exam.

Hi,

I am looking forward to write CAT(Common Admission Test) and GMAT this year. I just resigned my job to concentrate on these exams. I have 1.6 years of working experience.

I am planning do self study for both CAT and GMAT. I have to start from the basic concepts to all the intricate problems with in a span of 5 months from now. Is it possible to crack both of these exams with 5 months of preparation (about 10 hours a day) from now?

Hi guruvigneshV,

You certainly allocated enough time to prep for the GMAT. We usually recommend that students give themselves 3 months of preparation. However, each test taker is different...what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.

To be sure that you don't get GMAT fatigue, take a look at this 6-month study guide. It should help you pace yourself and use your time effectively: econgm.at/0VAWKM.

Lastly, remember to take a full CAT exam before diving into your preparation. It'd be good to know where you currently stand and how much you need to improve to reach your target score. This information will be vital in determining your preparation time and speed.

Hope this helps!

HI,

Self study in GMAT may not be a big problem if you are able to do the GMAT OG questions successfully. However it would be good to consult a GMAT tutor for certain valuable test taking tips. You could walk into a Princeton review center which would help you to do self study course under the guidance of a tutor.

Wish you the best.

You should spend 2-4 intensive months for studying. It is more important how you study than how long you study though.

For optimal results you should consider private tutoring because it is by far the most effective way to prepare for the GMAT.
