I have an work experience of 2.5 years in HCL Technologies Ltd. Currently, i am not working and i got 10th-81.2%, Inter-91.5% and Engg-72.5%. I have mentioned GPA as 2.3 wrt Engg- 72.5%. Is it correct?

I am planning to do Finance Management. Is it worth doing MBA in those colleges in which i can get into with this score(GMAT-600) with respect to campus recruitment, salaries or off-campus jobs? If so, please mention some decent colleges for this score.

Hi mschandra,

Instead of thinking in terms of "where do I have a good chance of 'getting in'", you should try to define what YOU specifically want in an MBA. There are a variety of factors that go into selecting the Schools that you'll apply to. Here are some things to think about:

1) Is there a particular company that you want to work for or industry that you want to work in? Certain degrees are more appropriate than others if you have a specific career goal.
2) What do you want your MBA to do for you?
3) Do you want to go to School full-time or part-time?
4) Are you willing to relocate? Are you comfortable with working through a program that is primarily online?
5) Are you going to be applying for scholarships?
Etc.

It's okay if you don't have answers to any of these questions just yet, but the more specific you can be with the details, the easier it should be to assess your situation.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi, Yesterday I took the GMAT test for the second time, scored IR-6 and 600(Q49/V22) which I have expected to be 650. In my first attempt, i scored 540(Q50/V17) which i have cancelled. Now, i am planning to take TOEFL in a month and prepare for GMAT for another 2 months and take it by August end. But i came to know that the admission process starts in July and GMAT score must be ready by then. I do not understand what to do. Is it good trying admissions with this score. If not, i cannot afford one more year to lose.

Please suggest me how to overcome this.

And one more thing, Is TOEFL mandatory with GMAT or IELTS is also considered?

To answer your other question, Round 1 deadlines are often in October so you can take GMAT latest by early September. Sooner is better so that you have more time to work on your applications.
Also, TOEFL is not mandatory for many schools if the medium of your under grad was English.
So you should do two things now:
1. Study for GMAT if you want to retake.
2. Research the schools - shortlist the ones you think are suitable according to the courses they offer, the campus placements etc and check out their requirements. Decide whether you need to take TOEFL accordingly. Also, based on the average score of the last year's incoming class, you will know what score you need to target. Depending on their round 1 deadlines, you will also know when you should take GMAT. Ensure that you take GMAT at least 20 days before the first deadline.

Hi,

Thank you for the information. I am just looking for options available now. Someone suggested me to do MSin Information Science(MSIS). How is it different from MBA? Is my GMAT score(600) sufficient for this or I have to take GRE? Is it good course to do?

Hi mschandra,

The answer to your most recent question is almost identical to the answers you've gotten previously. Once you identify the schools you're interested in, you should feel free to reach out to admissions officers to ask if they have a cutoff GMAT score. Remember that the GMAT is only one piece of your profile (albeit a very important one), so take some of the guesswork out of it and chat with the admissions folks at each school you decide on applying to.

That being said, I'd also suggest that you choose a track based on what YOU are interested in. Just because a close friend or colleague thinks one program or track would be a fit, that does not mean you should feel obligated to choose based on their opinions. Take some time to really evaluate why you want to get an MBA and make your choices based on your own goals.

Best,
Rich
