Hi All
After reading through many of the posts I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions why my quant score may be varying so widely from CAT to CAT. From the forums it seems most of the non-GMAT prep CATs are intentionally more difficult but my score is swinging quite a bit so I thought I would try to get some ideas on what may be causing this/suggestions for a plan going forward given my test is in two weeks.
Took the GMAT four years ago in College for my MS in Accounting application and got a 610.
Started considering taking the GMAT in Jun of this year and took a GMAT prep (I know I wasted it) just to see if my baseline score was a reasonable - I got a 650 with a 40Q/39V
I started studying in August focusing exclusively on Quant plus one week on SC and took Gmat Prep-1 again (only Quant section) in Oct and scored a 47Q/V44 which I was very happy with. There most likely was some repeat in this but given there was 4 plus months between when I took test one I didn't remember them.
As my test has been growing closer I have been taking practice exams/invested in the GMAT club exams have scored the following (listed in order I have taken them, all within a week):
Manhatten Q45/V40
GMAT Club Free Test Q42
GMAT Club Test 1 Q39
Veritas Q39
GMAT Prep Test 2 Q47/V42 - The verbal had many repeats from Test 1 but I got the questions correct both times. Math I did not recognize any problems from Test 1
Any idea why I may be doing so poorly on the GMAT club/Veritas or what is most representative of where I am going to score? I find it hard to believe after 3 months of studying I got a percentile worse than when I hadn't touched Math in five years in my baseline test but if my quant is really in the 39 range and not 45-47 I'd think I should reschedule my exam since I'm targeting 700+ for a realistic shot to get into the schools I'd want to apply to.
Given these scores what do you think the best use of my time is? Study wise I have gone through manhattan foundations of math, all
manhattan books, all OG quant questions, GMAT prep question pack 1. Should I just drill GMAT club questions or go back and do some foundational review of the
Manhattan books? Go through the advanced manhatten math? I have maybe 40 hours left of study time.
Should I stay focused on quant given my verbal is pretty good or would it be worthwhile to try to improve my SC as that is the only thing holding me back on verbal (have only spent one week total on verbal vs 12+ on quant)?
Thanks for any advice you have to offer!
Edit: Took a Kaplan today and got a 710 with Q48/V39 split. Perhaps the Veritas/GMAT Club exams are not representative of my ability given the Veritas I took directly after the Manhatten and the GMAT club is almost 100% 700 level questions that I really struggle with
