Hello dear experts,
I've scheduled my GMAT for July this year and need a bit of information.
1. If I'm targeting a score of around 720-740, approximately how many questions of the GMAT Club's 700+ level should I be expecting to see ? Can there be an approx split, say 20:40:40, for the sub 600: 600-700 : 700+ questions ? Just want to gauge my current level against where I should be at.
2. One of the boutique institutes I'd joined previously emphasized very strongly (almost to the extent of scaring me!) on getting a very high verbal score if we targeted a 700+ score. Want to understand if there is an extra amount of penalty at the higher score ranges if the individual verbal score is not high.

There are a number of different score 'combinations' that will get you to 700+ on the Official GMAT, so trying to think in terms of "how many 700-level questions will I see?" isn't a great way to think about this whole process. In addition, while working through individual practice questions can help you to hone your Test Taking skills, the only real way to measure your 'readiness' to face the Official GMAT is by taking FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections) under realistic conditions. We need to know how you handle the FULL Test, not just how you handle individual questions from an 'implied difficulty level.' I think that the message that the institute (that you referenced) was trying to communicate is that it's tough to score at a high level overall if you have a big 'weaknesses' in Quant or Verbal. By extension, if you want to score at a really high level overall, then you have to perform at a high level in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections.
It's been about 1.5 months since we last discussed some of these issues. Have you taken any practice CATs since then (and how did you score - including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

How nice of you to remember!
I did take a full length GMAT Prep test and scored 690 - Q48, V34, IR 7. Apart from that I've been taking the GMAT Club tests but mostly as quizzes. My question about 700+ question was also from a time management perspective, what usually happens with me is if the logic clicks when I see the question I am usually able to solve those under 3-3.5 minutes mark but if its a tricky one and needs lots of concepts to be tied together, I end up stuck. I understand, on an average, each question has to be solved under the 2 minute mark but is it really possible to solve them in that short of a time ?
I am looking at improving my speed and creating a plan to be followed on the test day for myself and hence need these answers.
Also, has the GMAT started taking IR scores into consideration while calculating the total yet ?
