Hi msatobe,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) You stated that you retook the GMAT. How did you score on each attempt at the Official Exam (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
3) Is there a specific reason why your Score Goal is 530? Is that a minimum score requirement for the Programs that you plan to apply to?

Hi Rich!

1) Um my scores were low (think 5%) I plan on taking a GMAT diagnostic tomorrow (this week has been crazy) and seeing where I need to improve.

2) for the rest of April I’m thinking 14 hours a week and for may I’m think 24 hours a week (not including practice tests too)

3) 530 is the minimum score. The one I would love to get is a 730 but unless I can get a 93% on Verbal and a 79% on Quant I don’t think so. I thought I was in that range (I scored pretty close on some practice tests so maybe take more of those?)

Yep. Third times the charm, right?

Sincerely,
Msatobe

Hi msatobe,

To make sure that you're focused on the proper content and Tactics going forward, we really need to know your exact scores on the Official GMAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores). When you took the Official GMAT, were you given an Unofficial Score Report afterwards? If you recently took the GMAT, then you don't have to take a new practice CAT at this point.

Hi Rich,

My new scores go as follows:

Q21, V16 score: 340. That is with a class, and a tutor. Sorry for the late reply. I've been doing math for nearly everyday this month.

Like I said, 530 is where I need to be. I prefer to have a higher Quant score than Verbal due to the nature of my masters.

Thanks!

msatobe

Hi msatobe,

The end of May is just 4-5 weeks away - and if this 340 is from your 2nd Official GMAT, then you will likely need far MORE time than that to raise a 340 to a 530+.

1) Do you have an Official Test Date yet (and if so, then what is it?)?
2) Have you taken any NEW CATs (in the new, shorter format) yet? If you have, then how did you score?

If you have not taken a new CAT yet, then it would help to know how effective your recent math-focused studies have been. As such, you should plan to take a CAT soon. Both MGMAT and Veritas have reformatted their CATs to the new version. You should take a NEW CAT (with questions that you have NOT seen before) and take it in a realistic fashion (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss how best to proceed.
