Hi Lori98,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. First of all, you really have not been studying for that long, right? Many students need to study for as many as 4+ months to achieve a 700+ GMAT score. Furthermore, even if your actual GMAT score was in line with your practice test scores, you’d still be about 60 points shy of your score goal, right? That being said, one likely reason for the difference between your scores on practice tests and your score on the real GMAT is that in your preparation, you did not really learn to do what you have to do in order to score high on the actual GMAT. Rather, you picked up on some patterns that were effective in getting you relatively high scores on practice tests.

To improve your GMAT skills, you need to adjust how you have been preparing. Looking at your current study routine, it appears that your prep is centered on doing practice questions. While engaging in practice is a necessary part of improving your GMAT skills, such practice is only beneficial after you have studied the necessary topics on which those questions are based. Thus, moving forward, consider adjusting your study plan such that it allows for linear learning. Specifically, consider using a resource that allows you FIRST to learn the concepts and strategies related to GMAT quant and verbal and SECOND to practice with a large number of realistic questions.

If you’d like some more specific advice on how to improve your quant and verbal skills, feel free to reach back out, and I’d be happy to help. You also may find it helpful to read this article about [url=https://blog.targettestprep.com/how-to-score-a-700-on-gmat/] how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

Hi Lori98,

Your scores suggest gaps in conceptual and process clarity. Your preparation seems to be more practice oriented than learning oriented. Since GMAT is a test of ability you must focus on building your abilities by learning the concepts and their application and then perfecting them through practice. I think you will find the article on Personalized Study Plans for 100+ Score Improvement to be helpful. If you want a more detailed 3 month Study Plan, you can refer to the article: 760 in 3 months.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries. You can write to us at [email protected].

Regards,
Aditee

Hi everyone
I've been preparing gmat for 2 months but on the exam day I scored 100 points below my avarage scores on GmatPrep.

I'd like some experts to give me some advice and tips to help me reach 690-700.

My preparation: I did 2 times the official guide 2019 and the quant and verbal reviews, I studied all the answer explanations with my error logs. Then, I started to do as excercise that I found here on gmat.club: circa 15 excercise per day of PS, 15 of DS, SC,CR and 5 RC per day. After that and after studied my new error logs, I did, always here on gmatclub questions on each topic for each part (Quant and Verbal). After that and after studied again my error logs I booked the exams.

My Mocks (each on GmatPrep): 1= 660 (Q50, V28)
2= 640 (Q44, V35)
3= 640 (Q46, V32)

My Gmat Score: 550 (Q39,V26)
When I saw the score I was surprised because I thought I did good. Anyway I know that my weaknesses are DS and RC (my level of English is B2 -FCE), do you guys have some advice? (I now bought mgmat prep geometry, number properties, algebra, word problems and sc). I have 4 months to study (10-12 hours per week).

You should better focus on a solid study plan with sound strategy. Here is a study plan for you

Best Books

For Concept Learning

Manhattan Quant Guides
Manhattan Verbal Guides
For CR: The Powerscore GMAT Critical Reasoning Bible
For RC: Aristotle RC Grail

For Practice

The Official Guide for GMAT 2015-19
The Official Guide for GMAT Quantitative Review 2015-19
The Official Guide for GMAT Verbal Review 2015-19

Best Courses (Budget)

1. e-GMAT
2. Empower GMAT
2. Math Revolution (Only Math)

You can start with Quant or Verbal which suits you. If you have started with Quant then Start with the Arithmetic but if started with verbal then start first with Sentence correction. One month for learning Quant concepts and one month for practicing question and same practice for Verbal. During you Practicing question don't forget to make an error log to track your weak areas after practice. Once you know your weak areas revise your Concepts related to those areas and do some more Practice. 6-8 CATs are enough for practice the real tests. Make your Stamina for sitting 3 hours in the test and don't study more than 2 hours in one sit and 4 hours per day

Top CATs for Practice

1. Official GMAC CATs
2. Manhattan CATs
3. Kaplan CATs
4. GMAT Club Quant CATs
