I am working professional.I appeared for GMAT exam in november 2018. i achieved 480 score.
I could give only 5 hours collectively from Mon-thursday
And gave 2 - 2.5 hours on weekends(excluding coaching time) , as i had taken a coaching as well for the weekends.
I have three questions

1. Should i start prep once again and plan to give gmat in 2-3 months?
2. Is it practical even to have target of 700 now after achieving this horrible score?
3. Also, how long can it take max to reach 700 from this pathetic score of 480 ?

I ask this since, i am working and on weekdays(mon-fri) i plan to give 2 hours each day
and on weekends self study and give 4 hours each on sat and sun .These are the minimum hours on weekends. I plan to give more, depending on experts answers on above questions.
PLLEEEAASSSEEE HEEELLLLLPPP !!!!!
i sincerely want to write gmat and achieve good score

Yes, a score of 700 is practical but there is no fixed time of achieving it. Practice and work on your weak areas everyday and I am certain that you will see a lot of improvement.

To reach a score of 700+, you must first reach 500 and then 550, 600 so on. So, take it one step at a a time and everything will work out!

Best wishes :)

Hi aspiringGmat007,

Raising a 480 to the point that you could consistently score 700+ will likely require at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. That type of Score is approximately the 90th percentile - meaning that 90% of Test Takers never score that high on the Official Exam. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. Whether you can actually earn that Score or not will depend on a variety of factors.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long did you study before your first attempt?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs/mocks (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for your 480?

Goals:
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi aspiringGMAT007,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. To answer your first two questions, 100% you can achieve a 700+ score; however, you likely will need longer than just a few months to improve by 220 points. Although it’s difficult to give you an exact timeframe, I suggest you give yourself 4+ months to study. If you would like more detailed advice regarding your study plan, please reach back out, and I’ll be happy to help.

Also, you may find it helpful to read the following articles about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT and how long to study for the GMAT.

Hi, aspiringGmat007

Welcome to GMAT CLUB! Firstly, I’m glad to hear that you took the first official GMAT and checked your level. Taking an actual test is really important for a beginner, because the result could be the indicator and study guide. Keeping in mind your target score could be the influential impetus for you. Don’t forget that you are on the way achieving your goal whenever you are struggling with your long journey.

Improving your score from 480 to 700+ is achievable, but you should spend more than 3 hours everyday studying both verbal & quant and continue it for at least 3-4 months. Considering your score, solidifying bases is essential. When you have a strong establishment, you can raise your score rapidly. So, focus on studying and understanding concepts at first. Do not jump up to solving question with weak concepts. It could seem that you can solve even the hardest question right after learning the concepts, but you should always keep in mind that skipping easy level questions is not a good idea for the beginner with your score. You’d better refer to the other members’ review and decide which prep and review courses fit you.

Going from the upper 400s to the 700s is doable, but could take longer than three to four months at the study pace you've outlined. That said, by preparing effectively, you can minimize the amount of time you need.

See this post for insights into how to prepare effectively to achieve a high target score.
