GMAT Exam amidst COVID in India

Question

Hello All,

Many of us might have scheduled their GMAT exam in May, I have too. I am not sure about how is it going to take place.
I live in UP and my center is in New Delhi ( a hub of COVID cases ). I tried to reach out to Pearson but no satisfactory response.
I would like to know experiences of others who took their test or have planned to take in May.

Please share your response or any lead which can lead to clear out the confusion.

Sorry about that.

Well some people did post last week about not being able to give the GMAT at the center in Delhi due to Covid-19 restrictions and Pearson cancelled the exam and the attempt did not count.

Hey, I am facing the same issue. I have my test in less than 10 days, and the whole city is in lockdown. Pearson test center didn't pick up the phone. I wrote GMAT an email today requesting them some information, or at least allowing us to cancel the exam free of cost.

I really worry though about the situation. In conditions of lockdown(for now it is till May 3rd), obviously they will cancel the exam free of cost. But, in case the government doesn't extend the lockdown, I really fear that test center might open up and we'd have to give the exam in such tragic times(risking our health) ! I really fear going out considering the healthcare crises Delhi is facing, lack of oxygen etc. Would be $250 in drain, and I can't afford that. But, what is more precious than our life !

I mean, if the center cancels the exam, they might do it just a day before to be honest(from what I heard from some of my friends). However, I would really appreciate for them to let me cancel free of charge considering the bad crisis, so I can book an online date at the earliest.

I think that is the most humane thing to do, at the very least.

I am waiting for their email response for now. Other than that, GMAT has been pretty much unavailable.

I will keep you guys updated. Kindly update as well, in case you hear something useful.

I received email from GMAC stating that my exam stands cancelled and full amount will be refunded within 7-10 business days.

Mine wasn't cancelled by GMAT. However, I contacted the chat support, and the support agent was kind enough to cancel the exam for me.

I am worried though that I might face cancellation fees since I requested the cancellation, but the agent reiterated to me that I will get a full refund, considering the situation that the center is closed.

I find it strange though that they didn't send out cancellation email to a candidate who has exam next week but to candidates who have exam after :p

Let's see if I get the full refund, as technically, I did request for cancellation.

What about those candidates who have their exams scheduled for first week of June ? The lockdown hasn’t been lifted yet and may get extended till 31 May in New Delhi. There are no updates from GMAC yet. Can anyone suggest what to do since it would not be safe at all to give the exam as soon as things open up if the lockdown is lifted after 31 May ?

Yes, in the same boat. Looking out for slots and getting refunds two days before the test. Hopeful that situation will be better in June.
