Electricity or internet problems during GMAT online?

Hi experts,

I'm fairly new to the GMAT prep and I had certain questions regarding test mediums. I'm not necessarily sure if this is the right forum for these questions but please do redirect me to the right place.

I am planning to appear for the GMAT exam sometime in July and have always been inclined to appear for the test center medium. The reason that I prefer that over GMAT online is mainly because of factors such as the internet or electricity. What happens if you lose power or the internet during the GMAT online test? I'm aware that the tests are proctored but will I get some time to switch to my backup connection if I lose power?

I'm fairly skeptical about the GMAT online and with the COVID wave 2 surge in India I don't think that test centers would open by July. Do you guys have any guidance for such cases? I tried searching similar threads for couldn't find any. Please do link any existing threads where the same topic was discussed if the question is redundant.

As far as I know the test continues irrespective and your proctor may ask you . Suggest you to have a power back up ready. Use a laptop that has some battery , use a back up for your wifi.. If you are spending 250 dollars on exam better spend some bucks more on power set up. Suggest you to set it up first

Power back up and internet disruption shall not be there during your GMAT online exam. You must be ready with backup plan.

No I have a laptop with a good battery backup and UPS that can keep my modem on for sometime.

But I'm just planning for the worst case scanerio so I thought people might have ideas or have had similar cases for this. Thanks a lot for replying.

What is the longest amount of time that you think the power could be down during your exam?

Scott, I'm not sure how I can answer this question. I mean I have no control over the power cuts. Common reasons for a power cut could be bad weather or some transformer issues. Mostly the reasons are unknown. I have power cuts for about 3 minutes to something 8 hours. It's a weird thing. 😢

I ask because if the power is cut for just a few minutes you should be able to continue taking the test once your power is restored.
