Based on your ESR, on Verbal, Critical Reasoning was your weakest and took the most time on avg. Consider checking out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for CR. Working on time management may be helpful as well. You spent over 2.5 minutes on average during Q4 Verbal but less than 1.5 minutes for every other quarter.

Quote:
I got a 660 (Q48, V33) and have a month and a half to improve it to atleast a 700.

Person below went from a V31 to a V40 (retake) in about a month. They took a bit of tutoring (6 hours Solving approach) but mention a variety of resources and tips. Perhaps working with a study buddy could be be something to look into.

Thank you for your reply! I just finished the Manhattan prep critical reasoning 6th edition and I was able to grasp everything, all examples and concepts I was able to apply correctly, especially being able to spot the conclusion of arguments and discern what is a fact v/s opinion. Also I understand the foundational stuff. i think I am making mistakes in applying the concepts properly. I am working on that, trying to find the pattern of what mistake and in which type am i making the most. I will look into your course as well, i really need some help in verbal especially CR.

Hi! I desperately need some help here experts! :upsidedown
I got a 660 (Q48, V33) and have a month and a half to improve it to atleast a 700. Need help to get expert help on which parts to improve and how, based on my timing data and section-wise data. Would appreciate suggestions to achieve this target (will be able to give 3hrs weekdays and 6-7 hours on weekends). Thank you so much Gmatclub community and experts!

Work on plan and evaluate kind of questions in CR.
Time allotment to the 3 question types is fair. But in second and third quarter you missed some easy questions and took too much time in second quarter (a tough RC?). That is why you likely got a big penalty. The avg level of correct questions is actually higher than the avg level of incorrect questions in these two quarters. That should not happen. If a question seems too hard, take your best guess and move on. Invest too much time in it and you will miss easy questions later on. The overall difficulty level tanked in fourth quarter and you couldn't recover. Hence a low verbal score.

In Quant, work on number properties, geometry and sets and stats. In quarter 2 and 3 you missed many questions but relatively tougher ones. So the penalty was not that high.

Thank you for your reply! I definitely need to do time management better, and learn when to bail on a question both verbal and quant. The point regarding the avg incorrect being below avg correct, does that mean I was getting tougher questions correct and easier questions wrong? And getting easier ones wrong pulls down the score much more. Given the percentile ranking of CR as 51st percentile, I must have gotten easy CR questions wrong then in 2nd and 3rd quarter? Is that something I can infer? I dont remember struggling in any RC too much.

I do remember feeling rushed in both quant and verbal towards end of both sections while feeling very quick in both sections too in first quarters. Probably slowed down a little too much in 2nd quarter of both.

Also could you elaborate on the meaning part of SC questions? What does that mean exactly and what I may be doing wrong to get those wrong?

To get better at RC overall, I am currently tackling LSAT RC passages, they are more complex and hoping if I can practice them enough, GMAT RC passages should seem easier.
For CR I am trying to identify what types other than the ones you mentioned am I getting wrong. So 10 questions of each family of CR from forum quiz to see where my accuracy dips the most. I am able to find the conclusion very accurately and general understanding of the CR passages is also not difficult for me. I usually mess up in last two options or make silly errors like one word in an option changing the scope of the answer and getting trapped by it.

Yes, it means you got some easier questions wrong while you got the tougher ones correct (all in relative terms) and penalty for missing easier questions is much higher. If you had not missed those easy ones, your Verbal score would have likely been much higher.

Hi MBAspirant05,

I agree that CR is clearly your weakest topic. For some more advice on how to improve your verbal skills, here is an article you may find helpful:

Hi MBAspirant05,

First off, a 680/Q48 is a strong Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to act on that advice, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

There's certainly no harm in continuing to study - and you could pick up points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. As it stands, you are closer to a 700+ than you probably realize, but before we get to the data in your ESR, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) On what date did you take your Official GMAT?
2) How long have you studied? How many hours did you typically study each week?
3) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
4) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Thanks for the reply! I am actually on waitlist for INSEAD and want to improve score to convert it hopefully as I think my GMAT is the limiting factor. I have a month or so basically. My official attempt was in first week of april 2023. I did 3 mock tests on official and left the other 3 incase I would need them in future (thank god i did this). I got 660, 670 and last one (2 days before actual test) was 700 (Q49, V38). Having to wear a mask throughout exam was an irritating factor in my exam but otherwise I was hoping to get atleast 700. I mostly practiced from 700+ drills pdfs on gmatclub forum, powerscore for CR, Manhattan SC, tough RC passages (now doing LSAT to get comfortable with complex passages) and for quant I was mostly confident with a few weaknesses in number properties type questions and silly mistakes that I tried to reduce. I struggle in SC meaning type and CR overall it seems. I studied for 2 months for the test. If I am able to improve to 700+ I will be applying to other schools also to create more options. I am hoping by targeting weaknesses and addressing issues I can increase from 660 to 700+ in at most 2 months. Next two months I can give 4 hours on weekdays and 6-8 hours on weekends for an intense 2 months for this purpose.
