Hi All,
I am looking for some guidance to understand which top US/Europe Business Schools (or any other top International Business School) I can "realistically" target during 2024 admissions process at a GMAT score of 710 (GMAT Official), and with the below profile -
1. Software Engineer (Indian Male)
2. Years of Professional Experience in Fintech - 4 yrs
3. Field of MBA targetting - Technology/Finance
To be very honest my profile is not that diverse as many expect an engineer candidate applying for MBA has to have, hence I want true and honest answers for the schools which I can target (and where do those schools rank globally).
Please let me know in case you need any other detail. Looking forward to a fruitful conversation 🙂
deshayu - Some thoughts/ clarifications:
1. Would like to understand your work-ex better: which companies (branded orgs/ start-ups) have you worked in, which functions/ domains, and were there promotions? Would also be good to be directionally clear on your post-MBA goals i.e. function/ domains within tech/ finance, as these are broad areas. This would help in prioritizing programs better.
2. What was your Q/ V split in GMAT? It'd be ideal to aim for 20+ points above the GMAT average of your target program, being part of the competitive (Indian Male) pool. Latest GMAT Classic averages of top programs are here
3. B-schools also value participation in ExtraCurricular activities, any involvement here?
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to have a deeper chat.
Regards,
Arvind

Hi Arvind,

Thanks for the response.

For the pointers you mentioned -

1. I am currently a Software Engineer (Tech) in a UK based Banking group - NatWest Group (formerly Royal Bank of Scotland), and have been working in the company for past 4 yrs. I received a promotion last year which came with a few leadership responsibilities as well. I am primarily aiming to be a Program Manager in Tech sector post my MBA.

2. Score : 710 (FYI - I have given 3 attempst with Score 2 and 3 both 710, and within the two this one is better in terms of IR and Q, the other 710 had a better V but a weaker Q, IR)
Q : 50
V : 35
IR : 7
AWA : 5

3. Although I am not much aware of what constitutes as a extra curricular when it comes to MBA admits (tried finding online abt it, but nothing too conclusive, everything was too subjective). But few activities I have been part of are -
   a) Undergrad Table Tennis and Volleyball College team
   b) OffSite CSR activity - Teaching underpriv children in a week long program
   c) Organized a slam poetry event during the final year of College

My realistic target is ofcourse ISB, Hyd. But really want to grab a good International School like UCLA. Please comment abt your opinion of chances for an UC colleges as well (UCLA etc..) and ISB, Hyd as well. And any other college besides them that I can target, with my set of profile.
Will be looking forward to your response Arvind.

Consider posting your profile in the https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/ subforum as well. You could include/mention your scores as well as your interest in UCLA, for example.

A couple of pointers for you to consider:
A. 710 for an IME is not a strong score; since you have time for R1 in Sep'24, do consider taking GMAT FE and improving the percentile
B. Should you choose not to improve the score, then at least for USA schools, identify schools that are in T30-T35, have a STEM-designated MBA program AND where your score is higher than their past average by at least 30 points AND have a decent class % getting placed in your target industry / function
C. The target field of Tech / Finance is most likely an either-or option; it will largely depend on what exactly you have been doing in the four years in FinTech—is it Fin or is it Tech? And your post-MBA career will definitely depend on your pre-MBA career.
Best wishes,
Dee

Hi Dee,

Thanks for your pointers -

A. Unfortunately I am not looking forward to give another attempt, as the format has changed, and my new role in my current org will not allow me to re-invest much time as I did last year with the older format.

B. Wud be highly appreciated if you could share a list of colleges with genuine rankings, as Poets&Quants or Financial Times are giving inaccurate picture when showing rankings year wise with different scores and ranks.

C. I have been majorly asociated with Tech side of world (Software Development) in the banking firm I am currently at (NatWest Group [formerly Royal Bank of Scotland]) and hence my inclination is more towards a Program Manager role post my MBA.

Would like to hear your response over the same. And your opinion about my chances for ISB Hyd as well when speaking about an Indian Business School
Thanks in advance 🙂
