Should I be worried about my GMAT FE 725 score?

Question

Hi all,

I took the GMAT FE two weeks ago and received a 725 (Q80, V90, DI88). I will most likely apply R1 in 2025 and would like to be competitive at the M7 level. Should I be concerned about my Quant score, despite the good overall score? The sad part is I spent most of my 2 months of prep on Quant but it still did not improve that significantly for the actual exam.

My profile:
-I will have 3-4 yrs of experience as a management consultant at a good consulting firm (not big 3) with rapid progression
-Excellent undergrad academic background (e.g., almost perfect GPA, good extracurriculars, etc.)

GMAT Mock scores:
-Exam 1: 655 (Q77, V89, DI82)
-Exam 2: 665 (Q83, V88, DI78)
-Exam 3: 695 (Q83, V90, DI80)
-Exam 4: 705 (Q81, V90, DI84)
-Exam 5: 715 (Q81, V88, DI88)
-Exam 1: 715 (Q80, V86, DI90) - RETAKE
-Exam 6: 735 (Q87, V88, DI84)

I have also attached my ESR below. I realize I am already very fortunate to receive this score but can't help but feel worried. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Great score but not a balanced one ! Adcoms consider this but how do they evaluate its bit hazy for me

Hi alychee, First off, 725 is a great score. Congrats.

Now, if I were you, I'd take the exam again. Q80 is not a bad score, but I'd want to cover all bases (or as many as possible). Also, you're not applying immediately, so you have time. But to answer your question, you don't have to be (very) concerned about your quant score. Even good schools that publish minimum recommended scores won't really hold your quant score against you (INSEAD recommends at least V80 | Q80 | DI 77). Finally, just in case you retake and you get a higher Q score but your total score goes down, go with the highest total score.

First off, 725 is a fantastic GMAT score, so great work! While I don't think there is anything to truly worry about regarding your quant score, I do think if you have any shred of doubt, since you have the time, maybe give the GMAT one more shot. You certainly have nothing to lose. Let me know what you decide to do.

Thanks very much for the advice! It sounds like I would be better off trying one more time.

One follow-up question for  AjiteshArun  and  ScottTargetTestPrep  - how much additional prep should I be aiming for prior to my next re-take? I have seen advice to schedule it as soon as the 16-day wait period is over.

Your scores are Q77 Q80–Q83 Q87 , so you could go for a retake almost immediately. The only issue I see is that your V/DI scores are so high that an increase in your quant score could easily be offset by a drop in verbal, DI, or both. Back yourself on this. You already have a great score, and there's really nothing for you to lose here (except some time and money

).

Hi all,

I wanted to provide an update that I re-took the exam (online) today and received a score of 735 (Q87/V89/DI84). The drop in my DI score was due to my lack of proper time management and was definitely my fault.

While I do think I could have done better, I am very happy with this result as it definitely addresses my original concern of imbalanced scores. Thanks again for the advice!
