thanks a lot for the information :)

yes i know being from India makes things tough...and aiming for MIT Sloan would be stretching it a bit too far...but a friend of mine said that for an Indian male to have a realistic chance to get into Ross,Darden,Tepper,UT Austin and other schools in the 11-20 range, a 740 is necessary(he even advised me to appear again). Could you please elaborate on this?

There's a tendency to believe in India that 740 is some magical number, and that the GMAT will propel you through the universe like a rocket.....

;)

Buuuut, it's not true. Although the GMAT is certainly very important, once you get above a certain number you are good. And then, since they have the pick of the litter from folks with great GMATs what will matter is YOU - what you have done, what you want to do, how much it makes sense, how ambitious it is, who you are, your work experience. All of this is given as much weight as the GMAT.

Sloan is a stretch, okay... aim for it. Then add those schools in the 11-20 range. People get in even with a 650 (Although a higher GMAT IS of course highly beneficial).

Best,
JF

Well, think about things, and try and come up with a strategy for R1 and R2... if X happens then I'll do Y... The best single thing to boost your chances is to apply to more schools. Luckily you are starting off early enough where this is possible.

Best,
Jon
