Hi Jon,

Thank you so much for the quick feedback.

So as far as ECAs are concerned, I have actively participated in forums in school, college and work place (No certificates to back though, would that work?). These events include debates, discussions, writing newsletters and blogs for Department at BlackRock, I have no volunteering experience as of now but I am in talks with a few NGOs currently. Hopefully that would materialize and by the time I apply, I could have 4-5 months of volunteering experience if not more.

Other than theses, I am a part of a dance school and have learnt various dance forms.

Are ECAs that significant? Because this might be an area, I might not be able to change a lot by the time applicants begin. What do you suggest?

Hey there,
No problem! Happy to help!
:)

Well, the danger without ECs or volunteer work is that your profile come across as monolithic.. you know.. we want you to be as interesting and deep as possible when you apply. It's more than just a matter of listing a bunch of stuff.. but actually giving the AdCom an insight into you who are...

So, yes anything you can do will be helpful. Get out your dance school stuff, the NGO work, and anything else you have...

best,
JF

Thanks Jon,

I'll start working on the ECA bit then, along with my GMAT prep.

Really really appreciate your help here :)

One last question though!

If I do get these things right (GMAT, essays, ECA, the whole 9!)

Is my profile good enough to apply for HBS, Chicago Booth and Stanford GBS? I don't want to target unrealistic schools and loose my chances at the achievable ones.

Good question,
The truth is, except for a few folks who have like really magical situations (you know, their dad is a Senator, and they work for Goldman Sachs or McKinsey, and they have been volunteering for 10 years and run their own NGO), HBS, Stanford (and to a lesser measure) Chicago are hard for everyone.

If you can beat a 720/730, it may be worth your while to give them a shot, but they will be a bit of a stretch. I mean, I wouldn't suggest applying to all three (because as you mentioned, you don't want to "waste" too much energy), but at the same time, having one school on your strategy that is "far out" is pretty fair,

Cheers and best of luck!
Jon
