Hi Experts,
Can you please help me evaluate my profile? I plan to apply to Top 10 Canadian business schools for fall '22 intake.
Demographic- 26 (At matriculation), Male, Indian
GMAT- 660 (Q47 V35). I have another attempt scheduled for next week
Education- Engineering (Bachelors of Technology), GGS Indraprastha University, Delhi, India. Grade 73% (Can't file a reliable % to GPA conversion scale)
Work Experience(Sept 2018-Present)- Will have ~3.9 yrs exp at the time of matriculation
ZS Associates (Consulting)- 2 years, 2019 onwards
Accenture (Information Technology)- 1 year, 2018-19
-Won the "rockstar rookie" award
Post-MBA goals:
I'm keen on containing my journey in consulting. I have gained some exp in sales/marketing and strategy consulting but would like to explore opportunities in management consulting firms such as MBB
Extracurricular- I feel this is the weakest part of my profile. Unfortunately, didn't focus on this during my undergrad
1. As a part of CSR activities at work, I'm part of the team that mentors underprivileged high school students and helps them make right career decisions.
2. I was also a part of Rotaract club of my college. Helped organized various events and drives
3. Additionally, I helped organize various events during college festivals
Questions-
1. What are my chances of making it to the top Canadian programs? I'm targeting Schulich, McGill, UBC Sauder, HEC Montreal, Concordia and McMaster for Fall '22 and Queens for Jan '23
2. What would be the best way to explain the lack of extracurricular achievements? I can maybe try to exaggerate/sugarcoat the ones I have or focus on my work exp in my application
3. Is 660 a below par score for the schools I'm targeting? Though the average GMAT for these schools ranges between 630-670, I'm concerned because 'Indian male' is one of the most competitive applicant pool

A: You will be given consideration, but you might have a hard time with the higher ranked schools. Improving that GMAT score will be very critical to your chances.

A: Any attempt to explain the lack of extracurricular activities is unlikely to work. You are correct. You are best focusing on what you have done and other elements of your background, namely your accomplishments at work and overall experience on the job.

A: You nailed it. Your demographic cohort is the reason why those averages don't precisely apply for you. I don't mean to up the pressure but this upcoming retake will be quite important for your profile.

Hey experts,
Request to review my profile. Planning to apply Top 10 Canadian FT MBA programs for Fall 22 intake.
Demographic- 27, Male, Indian
GMAT- 640 (Q47 V32).
Education- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, St. Peter's Engineering College, JNTUH, Hyderabad, India. Grade 73.2%.
- Manufactured a go-kart from scratch after qualifying for national level go-karting competition Ecokart 2016.
Work Experience-
(Nov 2016 - Feb 2021) Assistant Manager at State Bank of India.
- joined as a probationary officer by clearing one of the most competitive banking examination.
- managed different roles in branch operations and specialized in retail credit.
- processed a record number of applications to enable the Branch to attain inter-bank pan-india second highest business growth. (Big deal for a small branch)
- awarded 'Best Processing Officer' multiple times.
(Feb 21 - present) Business Associate at PCI.
- tier 1 supplier of electrical components to industries and manufacturing plants.
Post-MBA goals:
Want to establish myself in the supply chain industry working in global corporates such as PnG or Unilever. Upskill to reach the COO position in such companies in the long term.
Extracurricular-
1. Volunteer at YFS and TFI working to educate children of government schools and prepare them for scholarship exams.
2. Launched a plantation drive in the city as a YFS volunteer.
3. Participated in Digital Literacy awareness campaign conducted by the AP government.
Questions
1. What are my chances at Canadian Schools like Alberta, UBC or Concordia? I'm also trying for Top 30-40 US schools. Please rate my chances for US as well.
2. GMAT is a big hurdle as I'm scoring low on the test despite scoring above 700 in mocks. Retaking the test would mean missing R1. Please advise if I should target lower GMAT schools or try to improve my score and go for R2.
3. Will study visa for Canada be a problem as my mother is a Canadian citizen and she is residing in Canada?
