End of this October marks one year in my current company. I am planning on quitting my job in Oct so I can dedicate 100% of my time to GMAT. In my resume I want to put Oct as my last month working in this company.
These may be some weird questions, and maybe I am worrying too much:
1. Will b-schools check what exact dates were my start and end date of the job?
2. If my resignaton effective date is Oct 2nd, and the b-schools do check and find out I only worked 2 days in Oct, will they think I was being misleading in my resume by saying I worked til Oct? Is there an issue here that I should be careful with?
3. Last day 5th VS 12th VS 19th: do these give different impression to the adcoms? Should I stay beyond mid-month to be safe? Does it matter when my last day is in Oct?
Basically, I want to leave the company as early as possible, to have as much time as possible studying for the GMAT, but still maintain a good work history on my resume.

I doubt it matters which day of the month you resign. If you claim you worked until October and your last day was October 1st, then you are not being untruthful. Based on what I've seen, applications usually ask how many months or years of work experience you have in addition to the start and ending dates, in which case you wouldn't claim the month of October as a month of experience if you only worked a day.
More importantly though, you should keep in mind that most people study for the GMAT while also working full time, thereby getting the test out of the way while also gaining work experience. You will be competing against people who were able to juggle both a full-time workload and knocking out the GMAT. Just something to consider before choosing to be unemployed, which will most likely require an explanation on your applications.

Hi patap106. I completely agree with atcooke. The dates you're considering won't matter at all. Most schools will just have you list Month and Year that you left a position, so any date in that Month is just fine. Also, they don't typically check with past employers before they admit you, but most do run a background check if you decide to attend. So you definitely want to be truthful throughout the process. I agree too that leaving your job could present a concern because you'd need to explain that employment gap and I don't think the GMAT prep counts as "enough" so to speak. Is it possible to take an extended leave or reduce your hours?
