When you are researching business schools, talking to current students and alumni is the single best way to cut through the marketing fluff. Avoid broad questions like do you like the program? Or would you recommend this school?. They will almost always say yes to such questions. Instead ask targeted specific questions that are relevant for your experience and goals. And note down their answers to later incorporate in your essay and interview answers!Questions for Current Students:Current Students will give you the most accurate picture of the school's current experience. Talk to them about their day-to-day experience with the culture, academic workload, and recruiting scenario.Academics1. What are your favorite courses and professors? What do you like about them?2. What's one thing you don’t like about the program or your experience?25. What's one thing the school is really good at but doesn't advertise?Questions for Alumni:Alumni can share perspectives on how the program really benefitted them in the long-term. Also, they can tell you how the market perceives the degree and how useful the network actually is after you graduate. 1. How has the school's brand name and network opened doors for you two, five, or ten years down the road?2. Are there specific geographic regions or industries where you feel this school’s network is exceptionally strong or noticeably weak?3. Looking back, what was the most valuable thing you took away from the program? Was it the hard skills, the network, or the pedigree?"4.
