If I'm reading your bio right, you have a full time job in aerospace and "on the side" you've founded 3 companies with ~$800k / year. Why do you need an MBA? Why not retire on your own private island instead?

I'm sure you're being sarcastic about the private island. :-D To be honest, the revenues are high but after expenses, maybe keep less than $400k/yr in profit. Want to get MBA to expand network and continuing learning and not just be about the $$. Plus, interest rates are crawling up so not sure if I can afford that island.

I'm sure you could find a not so secluded tiny island with that almost 400 a year take home $$ ;)

Hi,

You have a diverse profile with good acads, GPA, GMAT & ECs. You have fair chances in H/S/W and other top 15 FT b-schools. Further to strenghten your chances in these b-schools, you must skilfully write application essays and showcase your achievements at work place, headship qualities and other aptitudes during final interviews. Founding & managing start-ups would be advantageous while writing essays. Even your sholarship chances will depend on your essays and interviews.

You may PM your details for selection of b-schools and free profile evaluation.

Regards
Erina

Just joined this forum and soaking in the community here. It's awesome everyone is so helpful.

I work in the Aerospace/Defense industry and thinking about getting an MBA. Thinking about which schools I should apply and realistic have a chance at. I know...I know...I can look up the average stats of admitted students but there so much more to admissions than GPA/GMAT, so please, any advice you can offer would be appreciated. :)

Basics
Undergrad: University of Southern California (USC) Aerospace Engineering BS with 3.69 GPA
Grad: USC Aerospace Engineering MS with 3.92 GPA
GMAT: 49V/40Q/730 - 89%/85%/96% percentile

Work
Work Experience: 5 years at matriculation
Industry: Aerospace/Defense
Company: Big 3 Aerospace (Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing)
Role: Flight Test Engineer on 5th rotation. Currently working in team as youngest member (coworkers 2x my age - Aerospace industry, you know  ) with our work being nominated for highest award in the division

On the Side
Founded and manage credit repair company. On track to meet $700k annual rev.
Founded and manage real estate investment company. On track to own and manage 9 units producing $50k annual rev.
Founded and manage textbook sales company. On track to meet $30k annual rev.
Can run each of the companies on 5 hrs sleep/night

Volunteering
Coach individuals on public speaking and interpersonal skills
On leadership committee that tutors refugee elementary school kids
On leadership board of company affinity group
Manager/Coach for company basketball club

"X-Factors"
Low-income background
Single parent upbringing
First-born in extended blue collar family
First to grad college

Goals
Short term: management consultancy
Long term: leverage aerospace and consulting experience into blue-chip leadership role w/ P&L responsibility

TechWithNoExp,

Thanks for your encouragement. Noticed that you're class of 2014 of something. Are you currently in Bschool, and if so, how was the whole app process for you?

finalgears,

I didn't even notice the typo. I fixed it though. I am not currently in B school.
I am researching B schools for a 2014 matriculation.
So we are on the same boat. I've just heard that B schools love people who have: Worked in Startups/Started Companies/ Have a Family Bus.
