Hey guys,
I've got a few offers on the table and am interested in hearing some other people's opinion on which to take.
About me:
5 years w/e in the Power/Energy industry in product management and business development roles. Chemical engineer by background
My long term goal is to go into general management at a conglomerate, but I could also see myself starting my own company at some point. My short term goal would be a leadership development program. As an aside, I also have an interest in going into tech, but that's kind of just daydreaming. Overall, I want to get an MBA just to learn how to run a company and make decisions on best path forward. Plus, I've reached a point in my career where I can't really get into a management position yet. I'd like to stay in the energy industry, but I'm not tied to it necessarily.
I was accepted to Tepper (with, say $15-25k merit scholarship per year) and Darden (w/o $). I was waitlisted at Sloan, and I'll hear back from Tuck in February (likely w/o scholarship if I get in).
Tepper and Darden are too very different programs, but I think both would put me in comparable positions and opportunities post-MBA. As an engineer, I like Tepper's quantitative program, but part of me wants to say "Been there, done that" - as in I'm already from a quant background and can pick up on finance, and with a BS in Chem Eng, I already have "nerd" on my resume. I think Darden's program might develop my soft skills, and I felt like the student body was a great fit for me.
I love Charlottesville, Pittsburgh is OK - but granted - I only was there for about 4-6 hours for my interview. A major factor is that I'm from the Northeast and would ideally like to be in metro Boston or Northeast in 5-10 years. From their employment reports, both schools are fairly comparable on their placements in that aspect. I'm also not sure if it's worth it to stay on the Sloan W/L (during my interview visit a student basically talked me out of attending) or if Tuck is a good option if I get in (w/o $)
I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts on this one - thanks in advance.
