It seems like you really want to go to Fuqua. If you are just looking for validation of your decision, then you have it. Go where you'll be happiest.

What are your career goals? Kellogg is certainly a tier above Fuqua, and even in the south, you'll have no trouble finding a job there from Kellogg. Even the Atlanta MBB offices will take a Kellogg student ahead of a Fuqua student, all else being equal. Fuqua is a fine school (I'll be going there if I don't get into a Chicago school), and I hate the cold too, but I'd 100% take Kellogg over Duke, even if Duke gave a decent scholarship. I'm doing MC though, if you're doing something like healthcare I could see someone taking Duke.

In regards to fun, both Kellogg and Duke are known as having the two best student bodies, so you'll find a class-knit culture of people with strong social skills at both schools. Both are a bit more on the partying side too.

All that said, you'll be able to find a good job down South with Fuqua...perhaps just not as good as you would from Kellogg, really depends on your career goals I guess.

I'm a brand whore so I would choose Kellogg, but if you want to work in the South I have to imagine Fuqua has a better network in ATL, Charlotte, etc.

Kellogg will not close doors to the South since its such a strong program. If you want a student body that's concentrated in one area with better weather, then yeah, Fuqua sounds right, though I'm not a big fan of Durham (Chapel Hill, on the other hand is nice).

The only caveat is that if you want to do consulting and land MBB, Kellogg kills it in this area, and you would have no problem landing in a southern office. Some might chime in that Duke MBB recruiting in the south is good, but the numbers don't support it.

To illustrate mgh234's point, Fuqua Class of 2013 landed 23 full-time at MBB, Kellogg Class of 2013 got 118 MBB offers, and the student body isn't that much bigger than Fuqua. Just something to think about - from what I've seen, consulting is the one industry where prestige makes it a lot easier for recruiting.
