Here's my dilemma....I've been admitted to UNC's Kenan-Flagler with no fellowship, and Vanderbilt's Owen with a $15k / year scholarship. My business school focus is far from typical; I am most interested in sustainability and social impact within business operations and global supply chains, specifically in the realm of coffee / chocolate / raw food materials exports. Target companies include Mars, Inc., Ben & Jerry's (owned by Unilever), UNFI (United Natural Foods), or similar. Neither school is recruited hard by Unilever, though both have alumni connections at Mars, inc., and I feel confident that a self-directed career search could get me in the door with UNFI or anywhere else.
UNC has an entire office (Center for Sustainable Enterprise) devoted to sustainability within business, and an academic concentration with coursework as well as independent projects, and it also has a Net Impact chapter.
Owen has a Net Impact chapter, and one professor I've found (though I haven't reached out to). They don't really have anything comparable to KFBS's Center for Sustainable Enterprise or relevant courses to take, though I am sure I could take some courses through their other academic programs to flesh things out.
As a minor note--I was waitlisted at Ross, where their dual master's program through the Erb Institute kicks major butt for my focus. I predict I will be ultimately denied, though.
Anyone? Thoughts? Advice?
