So, I am a bit biased as I am matriculating to Tepper next fall, however there are a few things I think can contribute:
1. Although geographically Tepper is distant from Silicon Valley, USC is still not directly in the bay area if that is your goal location within California. Additionally, there are organized trips to the bay area each semester for the purpose of recruiting and familiarization with different firms.
2. 25% of Tepper graduates last year ended up on the west coast, most likely California (or Washington for Amazon, of which Tepper was the #2 feeder school last year, sending more than 10% of the class there). I also know a few second years that just accepted banking jobs in SF.
3. Google just opened a respectable sized office in Pittsburgh about a mile from Tepper. While it may not be Mountain View, access to this company is now a few bus stops away.
4. 15% of Marshall graduates went on to work in the tech industry last year. 28% of Tepper students were hired by the tech industry. Average salary at Marshall was $101k for tech, $110k at Tepper.
5. Analytics focus, which you touched on, is coveted in tech.
Anyhow, hope that helps.
