Hi there jhy42002,
Congratulations on being admitted to both Stern and SOM - I know that this year was especially competitive for both schools, so you should feel great!
But to the question at hand. I'm currently a student at SOM and can speak to recruiting and student life there, but can't really do as well with that at Stern, which I, too, considered.
You're spot on - IB is very strong at SOM, as it is at Stern. I know a bunch of folks who switched industries to IB and that the finance club and the integrated curriculum prepare students very well for recruiting and interning on the Street. For me, I think you've definitely hit on one of the secret sauces of SOM - our tightly knit community of both current students and alumni (from both SOM and the greater University). They have been invaluable in helping provide me guidance and internship opportunities.
While I know that there are many groups at Stern that are close to eachother, I've also heard that students disperse after classes because they live all over the city. What I've really come to appreciate is that so many SOMers hang out at Evans Hall and live near one another - and that if you did want to go to NYC, it's just a short train ride away.
Happy to answer any more questions you have. You have a tough decision ahead of you, but I'm sure you'll do great at both.

Stern! Especially since you want to get into I-banking. I do recognise that Yale is also doing well at placing into I-banking but NYU is right smack in the middle of NYC and has the historical nous in getting people into NYC banking.
Thanks a lot, wmay. I know Stern is very good at I-Banking. I was just wondering is the different big enough to justify giving up a school that has such a close-knit community like Yale and the high living expense living in NYC.
