UNC K-F ($$) vs Ross ($) vs Anderson

Question

I've recently been accepted to the FTMBA programs at UNC, Michigan, and UCLA. As a native Californian, I'm hoping to come back to Los Angeles soon after my MBA. At the same time, I think it'd benefit from an experience at another city/school (went to UCLA for my undergrad). I'm interested in careers Operations/Consulting and possibly Marketing.

I have a $30K/yr fellowship to UNC, $15K/yr fellowship from Ross/Tauber Institute of Operations, and no aid at this point from UCLA. What would you guys choose and why? Any other considerations besides, finances, rankings, and school networks to consider?

No school can beat Ross when it comes in network in operations and supply chain. Its Tauber Institute is plus in Ross. Your experience and projects will help open in opportunities. However, I'm not sure how Ross work in CA. You may think to get high quality education in Ross, but in same time your networks in CA will help you, if you have already built it.

I am impressed that UCLA admitted you - schools try to diversify (not easily admitting their undergrad alums; it is counter-intuitive but often the case) and I would suggest the same to you. I would be choosing between Ross and UNC since they are offering you a scholarship.

Both Kenan Flagler and Ross look pretty good on paper with Ross having better salary/employment numbers but I would say it is moot.

UNC, UMich, and UCLA are all public schools and have roughly the same prestige and reputation. Don't believe any of the BS that people put out there. No one is going to be more impressed you got into a large public school like UMich over UNC or UCLA. Go with the money and walk out of school debt free. The rankings between these 3 schools is too close they are all top 20 schools and will give you the same employment opportunities.

As someone who grew up in CA, UNC is not on my radar at all and I would have definitely put Ross and UCLA in a tier above UNC. I would choose Ross, because they're offering you $, but you should also visit the schools and consider personal fit as well (though from what I hear, UCLA and Ross are similar in culture). I think the argument is definitely there that if you want to stay in LA, UCLA would be a great option, as you see many Anderson grads filling positions at top companies around LA, but considering you went to UCLA undergrad it'd be good to diversify your experiences.
