I have been a lurker for some time on this forum and have already been notified of two acceptances prior to each school's R2 decision dates. I am still waiting to hear back from a few others (Kelley & Johnson). My short-term goal is to transition into management consulting (ie. S&O second-tier consulting for a firm like Deloitte) from an automotive/transportation marketing analyst background. As I have been working in Chicago for 5 years, I would like to eventually return to the area or out west (California or Colorado) where my close friends and parents reside. I am hoping to hear back from others who have already been through this process or know of others who have attended either of these schools.
FinancialsMendoza (Fellowship $$) vs Owen (Waiting until official R2 announcement)
Cost of living relatively similar in both areas (South Bend may be less)
CulturePersonally liked both visits, however, my gut is leaning more towards Owen. I don't know if this was due to the nice winter weather, southern hospitality, or exceptionally welcoming admissions staff. I would hate to base my decision off of a 4 hour visit though especially since Mendoza was just as welcoming.
Post Career Switch & LocationAs stated prior, I would like to return to Chicago or head out west. One major concern of mine is that Owen's relationships with consulting offices is primarily with Atlanta and Charlotte. The consulting trek takes place in Atlanta. I, personally, don't know how difficult it would be to network with consulting firms outside of this area. At this point of time in my life, I don't see myself living in the south for an extended period of time, however, my priorities may shift.
Both schools seem to have consulting placement among the same type of firms. A few placements scattered across MBB as well. Unless new information is presented, I don't see recruiting contacts as a major plus for either school.
