Hello everyone,
I'm going to attend a MBA in the USA. I was offered a scholarship from a college ranked from COLLEGE FACTUAL.COM nearly 1,050th on 1,300 total college in the USA, so a low ranked college.
I'm not a genius and I didn't do the GMAT yet (the school doesn't require it): nonetheless I'm studying for the exam since 2 months (on Kaplan book) because I'd like to try to get a offer from a better-ranked college. My GMAT score has been of 400 in my first attempt without study so I am supposed to collect a maximum of 600, let's say likely over the 500
What I want you to understand is that I'm not going to try to be enrolled in Harvard or Columbia ecc. but I wonder what could be the impact on my job career whether I attend either a LOW RANKED college or a MEDIUM RANKED one.
PS. Someone told me "Don't worry about the school, it is not so considered by companies as it is your job experience/internship ecc."

I think once you garner enough experience, then yeah, college/university doesnt matter as it becomes a fact of where you worked, what you did and added value in your job.
However, to have that first initial step...your first job...will very much depend on which university you went to. Top 5, top 20, top 50...all get different opportunities as different companies focus their recruitment on certain schools. When youre going to the 1000th ranked school, it becomes a problem of whether youll get the attention by companies to even give you a chance. You might be topping the school and getting the best marks...but no one will know (unless you entered national competitions which you ended up winning in).
Your first initial step outside of school will be a lot tougher and rougher to get a decent internship or placement compared to someone who went to a top 20 school or even a top 50 school - but if you have connections, either self made or through parents then what school you went to doesnt really matter (it becomes a tick in the box for them). Id say if the school is past the 100th mark...then all the schools are the same. 100, to me, is a self imposed mental barrier that most people have as 'the rest'.
