All,
I would greatly appreciate any advice/ insights from the group. About me: 31 yo single female, current Managing Director in Corp Dev, salary ~$200K. I currently love my job, company and continue to have upward opportunities, but unsure of longer term projectory at company. Company willing to let me relocate in near term, allowing me to expand my network in larger city. Have lived and worked abroad, am open to living in US or Europe- not tied to a specific region or area.
I like the idea of an MBA to help enhance my profile and to broaden my network and perspective, as i've really only worked at one company for most of my career. Post MBA, interested in continuing what i do now (acquisitions, startup investments/partnerships, corp strategy) but could change once exposed to more opps. Not interested in banking or consulting. I see an MBA as a helpful check the box for future opportunities (ie dont want to miss out on future opps bc I dont have one).
Status:
HBS: Accepted. Pros: Brand & Network. Cons: concerned i am already too old / experienced? Very high cost, esp once factor in opp cost (est $500K opp cost (post tax salary x 2 + est program cost). would i have post graduation opps that are above where i am now? Also seems a bit pretentious/ competitive from cultural fit
INSEAD: Accepted. Pros: love the culture/ppl i've met to date and the experience seems amazing, cheapest of full time programs (est. $245K incl opp cost) , extensive international opps, best fit demographically (avg age 30), strong European network, Cons: Brand recognition in US, US network lacking, post graduation opps, particularly in US (though i may want to stay in europe, unsure)?
Stanford MSx: Accepted. Pros: Brand, network & VC/ Tech/entrepreneurial access, one year program, best fit from career level standpoint, liked laid back culture Cons: most of cohort does seem to skew older, unsure of where MSxers are landing post program (any insight here would be great), cost (~$305K est incl opp cost)
IE EMBA: Accepted. Pros: Don't need to leave my job, would cost me ~10K after scholarships and sponsorship, global, program format suits my lifestyle (i travel often) Cons: brand recognition/prestige (particularly in US), network built not as strong, (what does this get me besides MBA on resume/ is that enough?)
Wharton EMBA (or
other EMBAs): considering, would apply for following year. Pros: don't need to leave current job/ traction, brand recognition Cons: 2 years every Fri/ Sat sounds exhausting while working, will i truly build network?, cost (est at 205K , work would contribute a decent amount (~50K or so), stuck in one area for 2 years.
Would love advice on:
1) Is a full-time MBA worth it at this stage in my life / career? Am i better off doing a part time? Does name/ prestige truly matter given costs?
2) Program recommendations?
