Hi,
I recently got accepted to UBC(no scholarship) and Mcgill(32k grant). My family lives in Vancouver, but seems like Mcgill is bribing me to think twice????
If anybody could please provide inputs on the following:
1. Which school is better to grab opportunities in management consulting industry?
2. I have heard mcgill has a screwed gpa system and very hard to achieve good gpa during to their grading system, how much if it is true?
3. Does consulting companies have offices in montreal and is french mandatory to get a job there?
4. Which among vancouver and Montreal( & Toronto though 5 hours travel) is better for consulting industry?
5. They say that student need to travel to toronto to network with people.how feasible is it during the curriculum?
Anything you would like to add as a pro or con to each university that can actually help ease my decision will be highly appreciated.

I don't know much about the recruiting at McGill or UBC. However, you probably know the landscape of Vancouver and consulting industry there. Tell me if I am wrong - I live in Seattle, just on the other side of the border and it feels Vancouver is not really a powerhouse of any particular industry except for an unusual Asian Real estate drive. My understanding of Vancouver is that there is not a whole lot of business or consulting that happens there besides Lulu Lemon perhaps. Am I naive to think that? Are there strong MBA job opportunities in Vancouver in Consulting?
I am not sure McGill is worth it per se in your situation. It is not in Toronto and does not have much of an MBA job market either, so you will have to go to Toronto to recruit (which should not be an issue really - you will have plenty of opportunities, breaks, and even organized events/trips). Few companies will likely come on campus besides a few startups in Montreal (this is only a guess though).
I could see you getting further ahead in Vancouver by staying close to your network and where your family is, and focusing on the west coast rather than heading out to Montreal and then coming back. At the same time, if you want to be in Toronto, then that's a better bet.
Tell me if you think otherwise.

My one input: 32K won't make much difference because you will spend a bit less than that in you living if you choose Mcgill.
