Thanks for the revert. In essence I am currently researching on the internship bit and checking if that is critical in the Canadian job market.

Will you need an internship to pivot into this role? I don't have the answers to a lot of these questions because I work mainly on top 10 programs however I would advise you comb through the employment report for Ivey and inquire about NET consultants meaning those who were NOT MBB or similar prior to MBA; also hop on Linked In and speak with alumni who are in your target role for Ivey to start; then other schools as you see fit. If you are confident with the consulting goal focus on that and talk to lots of people. The other things listed are sort of fringe with respect to achieving your post-MBA career goal.

Hello Folks,

I am in a dilemma regarding choosing my school. I have admits from Ivey (with some $$) , McGill, Schulich, Sauder (No $$ for these schools :( )

Currently I have 7 years of work exp. In terms of career post school, I intend to take up a role in Internal strategy within a Corporate (eg: Banks, CPG etc). Also I am not averse to consulting (MBB).

Wanted to have your inputs on the following points:

1. Toronto(read: Ontario) vs Vancouver market vs Montreal (I am not a francophone)
2. Importance of the school being located in Toronto
3. Better of the above in terms of satisfied career placements.
4. Better of the above in terms of networking opportunities and Alumni base.
5. I am fine with the 1 year work visa post qualification so that is not a key criteria.
6. In Schulich I got admitted to the IMBA program so the cohort size is not large.

Thanking in advance for all your inputs.

I saw your post earlier. Congratulations on your admits!!!

I am not an expert on Canadian programs but I have heard good things about Ivey and have even done a few of their tricky financial case studies. Why not Ivey? What are your concerns for it?

Hi bb

I donot per se have any concerns with Ivey. However as you would have guessed I am an international applicant and need some local insights on the below points:

Also I do value that Ivey is one of the few schools which has a 100% case based teaching method. So that is a huge plus.
But given it is a 1yr program sans internship I wanted to have inputs before making a choice.

There is not much work or industry in Vancouver so that’s an easy decision :-)

Most of the BC economy is based on a real estate boom fueled by money coming in from China....

You have quite a bit of experience and if you’re not switching industries and have a good brand names on your resume, you may not have to look for an internship but it’s very helpful to have one when you’re transitioning into a new country and if you were switching industries. It does take longer and cost more to do a two year program but it is also safer and it’s a more traditional MBA experience. I did not realize Ivey was a one year program so that should give you a sense of my ignorance about it :-)
