Hi all, I was recently admitted to Anderson and Stern (both with full tuition scholarships). I come from a mechanical engineering background and am looking to move into tech Product Management or start an entrepreneurial venture after school. I would like to return to the Bay Area after graduating. I am leaning towards Anderson, but wanted to get more perspectives. Here are my thoughts:
Stern
+Slightly stronger brand overall?
+Academics seem to be slightly stronger vs. Anderson
+Living in NYC would be an interesting learning experience
+Like the IQ+EQ focus
-Fewer people go into Tech, although Stern seems to be putting in resources to change that
-Higher COL
-Likely tougher to recruit for Bay Area, although it still seems doable
-Harder to keep in touch with my classmates and the school after graduating
-Weather
Anderson
+Lot more people go into Tech PM
+Vast majority stay in California, so network would probably be stronger for me long term
+Loved the campus and the surrounding area when I visited
+I think I'd probably enjoy LA life more than NYC life too
+Heard great things about Parker career center
+Very excited about the Business Creation capstone project
+Seems to have more of an entrepreneurship focus than Stern
-Weaker brand than Stern nationally but stronger brand in California?
-Potentially less tight-knit community since people tend to commute?
Any feedback or advice would be welcome, and please correct me if I'm wrong about any of my assumptions.

Your reasons for NYU Stern are not all that compelling even if it is a great program. If you are set on the Bay Area and Technology post-MBA, it's a no brainer.
NYC is terrific city and the tech scene is growing, but it's still vastly behind the Bay Area. NYU Stern may have a slightly stronger brand, but so much of that is due to its strong finance focus and it's not THAT much stronger than UCLA Anderson especially if you take the strength of UCLA's West Coast network into effect. Once you look beyond that, NYU Stern becomes less attractive to employers and the network becomes less valuable.
Recruiting for West Coast jobs will surely be more difficult from New York than Los Angeles. Many West Coast tech shops like to see you have the West Coast network even if you were coming from the region before school. It's a competitive field as is, so why put up another barrier to your search?
Now, if you want to live in NYC for 2+ years just for the experience then obviously NYU Stern is a good choice. The school is located in the heart of the Village neighborhood, which is a fun, youthful (albeit expensive) area of the city. For your situation, though, I'm not sure that it is the best fit.

Andersen is not as highly ranked but it makes sense in your case. At the same time, recruiting is like chicken and the egg. You could say that Andersen police as well and to tech but that also is the same as saying a lot of the Anderson alarms apply into tech and that’s the same as saying that’s where they’re end up finding jobs. I am not sure that it is Andersen‘s merit or value add or that it’s just or jobs in California are. I can see New York being much more diverse with opportunities and consulting, finance, media, CPG, and so on. California is mostly tech with some media and then lots of small business so it is natural that Tech is the destination. There are not as many consulting opportunities or recruiting happening on campus at all of the west coast schools.
I would add that Andersen has put in a lot of effort into the career center and I have heard several people complemented. At the same time it’s more of a coaching center rather than a placement agency so it helps to be a better job applicant but it’s still up to you to win the job end ace the interview.
PS. The fact that many people do end up in tech, also helps when reaching out to alumni and networking. It also helps do you have strength in numbers. With many people looking for opportunities, things will turn up that otherwise may have been overlooked.
