Background: 27F working in marketing and comms previously for a digital creative agency and now for a Japanese multinational in CE, UK citizen living in Milan for the past 4 years. Post-MBA wanting to pivot more into tech and product development with a long term goal of entrepreneurship. Italian SO so will most likely end up in Italy but would value another experience or 2 abroad before settling.
Bocconi
+ 50% Scholarship meaning I would only need a 30k loan - funding confirmed, will only cost me €35k to repay
+ Easy when it comes to logistics - already set up here, would just be a question of going to school instead of work
+ Already fluent in Italian so can get the most out of career opportunities etc
+ Can launch and work on my startup at the same time
+ Possibility of doing an exchange in the US (also possible at Esade however, with me already being away from my SO etc, not something I would opt for)
+ Could use the wiggle room I have with more cash on hand to attend a coding/tech bootcamp to help with short term goals
- Smaller cohort so less of a network technically
- Curriculum is not as dynamic, not too innovation focused, very traditionally Italian as a school
- Alumni community is not that active
- Feel of the school is a little colder and career services are not as involved with your from the beginning - heard some not great things about careers
- More finance, consulting and fashion focused
- Had a Zoom chat with some of my cohort and do not align with them and their goals as much as Esade's, also quite a bit younger than me
Esade
+ Barcelona is an awesome city and a growing tech hub
+ Esade is #1 for Entrepreneurship in Europe, very good for tech and has a very dynamic curriculum which is very reactive to the world around it (they are adding more social impact modules this year, for example)
+ Collaborative atmosphere - also already met quite a few people in my cohort on a Zoom chat and really like them and align with their goals and motivations
+ Careers service is really involved right from the beginning and seem incredibly helpful
+ Part of campus dedicated to startups and innovation etc
+ More active clubs
+ Very active alumni community
- Only 17k in scholarship which they will not budge on, which will mean I will need to take out 2 loans for a total repayment of around 80-90k, funding confirmed
- Massive pain in the ass to organize relocation, potentially puts my pre-Brexit protected Italian residency in jeopardy (could manage to hold onto it if I come back immediately but who knows how that will work out in practice)
- Involves extra cost of paying 2 rents (Milan home with partner and dog + Barcelona)
- Would have to put startup on hold and post-graduation debt may jeopardize it a little
Anyone want to put in their 2 cents?
