I'm no expert on EMBAs, but based on your methodology, CBS is the better choice.

-More diverse, larger alumni network,
-Higher pre-EMBA salaries (by around 15%, which can be used as a proxy of program strength)
-Stronger program (M7 vs T15)
-New building as the Manhattanville project draws to a close.

Undergraduate prestige has very little importance for MBA programs in general, but in this instance, should be negligible as Columbia is no slouch. Frankly, I can't see how any of the individual points that you highlighted point to SOM, aside from the greater prevalence of public policy backgrounds.

Makes sense to lean a certain way and get input.
I don't think either will be a mistake  and knowing that you are staying within your company, the school's reputation/recruiting/etc takes a much smaller role. It makes sense to be looking at items other than placements and recruiting and looking at classes and options since you are doing the program for your own improvement so may as well take classes for what you are looking to learn about.

Funny story about classes, my favorite class during business school was Business Law and another class, I can't remember a name of anymore. I think it was consulting or something along those lines. The first one, I ended up getting dumped into it since I did not make a choice for my second semester in the second year, I got auto-assigned into it. The prof was hard but was my favorite class but you will have some bad ones too - everyone does. You can't have only awesome ones, right?

I am sorry I am not much help with Pharma....

I am a very recently-graduated MBA student from CBS. bb gave a lot of good points, so I'll just echo thoughts here:
-As an EMBA going back to your current company, the most important thing is your classmates. Talk to as many as possible. Contact admissions and get in touch with current (1st year) EMBAs and hear what they have to say and what they've done.
-Undergrad and MBA rankings have little bearing on EMBAs. They're not the same program (at least at CBS) and while the curriculum can be similar, the focusses of the programs are different.
-Get in touch with people in the Pharma/Lifesciences/Healthcare clubs at the schools. See what the various leadership/learning opportunities are.
-Decide if you want to be in NYC or New Haven. I've lived in both. New Haven has better pizza. NYC has better everything else.

I have no experience with SOM EMBAs but I both tutored and TA'd for EMBAs here at CBS. They are generally of high caliber and have insightful things to say. Also, perhaps of interest, in one of the classes I TA'd Mace Rothenberg did a whole lecture on management while developing the vaccine, which was superb.

Congrats on the success. I'm sure you will choose wisely. Even if you don't, sounds like you have a great job lined up that you are happy in so that's great. :) Good luck!

Hello Guys,

I have decide between Columbia and Yale EMBA programs. Both are very strong and have a great reputation.
My focus is on Pharmaceuticals Sector, Both programs have HPM ( Columbia ) and Healthcare Track ( Yale ). After doing some research I landed:
Columbia
1) Columbia has far more pharmaceutical commercialization courses than Yale SOM
2)Columbia has a more diverse set and number of courses to draw from from other areas
3)New York City Advantage
4)Deeper digital health inroads
5)Larger alumni network
6)Columbia University ranked Number 3 in US News for 2021, and ranked top 10 business school in the world
Yale
1)Yale has a slightly higher reputation even though ranked slightly lower? ( Am I imagining this?, after reading this in a few places? Highly debated, I am not quite sure of this !)
2)Yale is extremely good at healthcare service delivery and alumni strongly placed in healthcare public policy, government and hospitals
3)Smaller number of graduating healthcare MBAs overall, compared to CBS
4)MBA is more general management focus and brings in more MDs into the program
5)Smaller alumni network comparatively
6)Yale is right behind Columbia in all rankings, by 1 or 2 spots. Really no big difference.

I would like get your thoughts, focusing on the Pharmaceuticals specialization and not healthcare delivery for both schools.

A good different between Columbia and yale
