Hey everyone,
This is probably a bit of an unusual post. I am a first year undergraduate student, planning to go on exchange in the spring of 2022 as part of my bachelor's program. My school offers the chance to go to both HEC Paris and Bocconi, and I cannot decide where I would rather like to go.
Pros and cons with HEC Paris:
The fact that HEC Paris is more prestigious is the main reason for why I am considering it. One big con that comes with HEC is that they only offer courses at a graduate level, which has me worried that I, as an undergraduate student, may find the courses too heavy. The school's campus is also located about an hour away from Paris itself, which is a big negative for me as I want to live in the city. I've also heard that the exams are all very close to each other, and that I may have to take several exams in one day.
Pros and cons with Bocconi:
Bocconi is in the middle of Milan, which is a huge positive for me as I wish to live in the city. They also offer courses at an undergraduate level, so I won't have to worry about potentially attending too difficult courses. I've never been to Italy before, but I have been to Paris. However, and this is a big however, HEC Paris has a better brand.
One question I have regarding HEC Paris is whether you are able to live in the city of Paris, and still attend classes without any large inconveniences. And will I be missing out on a lot of the student life if I i live in Paris, instead of Jouy-en-Josas? If you are an HEC alumn, or have been to HEC before, I would really appreciate insight into this.
Any opinions on which school I should choose are also greatly appreciated!

In the beginning, I thought it was easy to pick because in the level of MBA I find that HEC provides more attractive courses than Bocconi But when I read the pros and cons I find difficult as I base my thinking on MBA. Your situation is totally different due to HEC grda courses and I can't judge based on your undergrd situation.
So, my process of thoughts will be which offers the courses that complement my study and hence makes me more workable. I would not give more care about which is more prestigious. If you go for HEC and did not get any learning due difficulties then the whole purpose of the exchange will never be achieved. It does not mean that you must go to Bocconi. My advice is to take deeper look course curriculum of possible in light of my prior view.

I would say that you are in undergrad and it doesn’t really matter a whole lot. It’s not going to add that much value on your résumé when someone sees either of these programs. It’s not like you’ll get hired because you did an exchange semester or a year at that specific program.
I would look at your decision from the standpoint of more immediate pros and cons. Such as being stuck in the middle of nowhere is definitely not a good option and also budget and being able to live in and do what you want. I would also consider if you’re planning to work or live in either of those two countries or if you speak one of those languages. Perhaps speak both? I would pick the friendlier country to you where you can thrive and enjoy yourself. What does he enjoy yourself I don’t mean forget about school and party all day long I mean were you would be able to accomplish things better, faster, more efficiently and enjoy the process rather than suffering through it.
Also, I would consider how this impacts your internship and if there is an industry that is particularly close to one of these two programs where I can help you professionally from that standpoint though again being in undergrad you may not have strong preferences but if you do, that would be a plus.
PS. I don’t know how this would work for your program, but for me doing and exchange, I only got the pass fail grades. There was no percentage or grade or a number just a pass or fail. That may be the case for you as well in which case grades won’t matter as much or the difficulty of classes. You may enjoy the classes or it can be completely miserable if you were the youngest and the least knowledgeable guy in the class 😬
