If admitted, which schools should I choose?
Darden(50% scholarship) vs ISB.
A top Us program barely recognized in India vs Top Program in India?
Considering, one has to eventually come back to India given the immigration and Visa Issues in US.
What parameters should I take into consideration before evaluating both schools?
Hello
Applicant007,
Thank you for this question. Every year scores of students go through this and often choose based on the incorrect criteria.
When it comes to choosing a school, you must take into consideration several factors.
Here are some of them:
Location - Take into account your preference for the cities or the suburbs. Also, consider major employers located in the area. If the school allows for in-semester internships, it can be a great advantage. Weather and climate are also significant factors to consider here. If you hate the cold, Darden would not be a great choice.
Costs vs Post-MBA package - Understandably, the Darden is much more expensive than ISB even with a scholarship. However, Darden also presents greater earning potential as well. The correct choice depends on your financial situation and aspirations.
Academic Experience - Darden is known for its amazing faculty. However, ISB also invites some professors from top business schools to its campus.
Class Size - Darden has an average class size of 400 students, while ISB has approximately 600 students in its Hyderabad campus and 300 students in the Mohali campus. Reflect on your undergraduate experience to understand what would suit you.
Culture - The country schools are in plays a significant role in the culture of the colleges. ISB though an international school, has a strong Indian influence. On the other hand, Darden will give you first-hand exposure to the American culture, allowing you to expand your perspective.
Diversity - While every MBA program will give you diversity in terms of age, experience, networks, and professional goals, Darden has a more diverse class (24% are international). Darden also allows you to build a network in the USA. On the other hand, an ISB network will let you deepen your network in India, which is helpful if you wish to work in India long-term.
Regardless of your choice, remember that both schools are highly selective and have significantly helped past students accelerate their careers. Best of luck on the MBA journey!
