I was admitted to two of my top choices in Round 1 and I would appreciate any insights in deciding between these programs.
Background and Goal:
11+ years of experience at a top consulting firm (VP/Principal level). Separately, I have been heading recruiting for our practice for the last 5 years. I am looking at a career pivot into People Operations/Strategy at a startup or pursue social entrepreneurship in the workforce development space. I am in my mid-30s and my husband will be relocating with me and working remotely.
Both of these programs are great for general leadership/management and social entrepreneurship. Below are my thoughts on the two programs and I could use insights from those familiar with the programs to make an informed decision.
Stanford MSx-
Pros:
- I can immediately think of 10+ classes I want to take at the GSB
- Stanford brand and network
- Cohort will be closer to my experience level and age
- Seems to be a lot of infrastructure and support around partners and families
Cons:
- 1-year is a short time to make a pivot and take all the classes I want to take and make meaningful connections as well
- While I think the program itself is amazing, I dislike the MSx branding and have found it confusing to communicate to others (99% people don't know about it including Stanford non-GSB grads)
Berkeley Haas FT MBA-
Pros:
- Non-ambiguous MBA degree
- 2-years (vs. 1-year cons above)
- I connect with the four defining Leadership Principles and Haas appears to have a more down-to-earth culture than Stanford which might be a better fit for me
- $30K scholarship
Cons:
- Cohort will be considerably younger and less experienced
- Strong brand but not close to Stanford brand imo
