I've been trying to think through this decision pretty much non stop since 2 weeks, but haven't seemed to have made any headway. I have been offered a full tuition scholarship at Ross. And then also been offered a $80k scholarship at Booth.
I'm super humbled by both of these options. And I feel like I'd be a fool to say no to either. I feel like Ross might be a better fit for my personality as I am more of an introvert, but I'm not sure what kind of doors Booth would open up for me that Ross couldn't. I know that in the long-term I want to have a career in a strategy tech role or General management- but I may also want to do healthcare consulting. I also don't have a very strong quant background and so I wonder if Booth would be better for me in terms of building stronger skills in that area but also worried about maintaining a min GPA of 2.5 to avail the scholarship offered. On the other hand, I have concerns about the social dynamics at Booth- given that people seem to live all over Chicago and there aren't any sections. And then- of course- I wonder if the Booth experience is really worth an additional debt. Assuming I work hard and network like a rockstar at Ross, I wonder if rankings/overall reputation matters that much.
Sorry in advance for rambling. I'm kind of tired and just typing thoughts stream of consciousness...

Booth actually does have a community. I’m not sure if you followed the news about booth over the last few years, but I think a year ago they had to shut down the program for a couple weeks because a whole bunch of students were putting together. I think it was like 60 or 100 people. I think we have a copy of the news article hanging somewhere here on GMAT Club. That is because they all live downtown Chicago and commute by train. Most of them live around the aqua building and I’m sure there’s some new ones got built on the E. Wacker Dr. It is prime real estate and expensive but most students choose to live there for the benefits that the downtown Chicago offers. It would not be uncommon for you to live in a high-rise with 30 or 80 of your classmates. You can probably get a pretty good sense about it from current students though again Covid may have had an impact in my information is pre-Covid.
This does not mean, that I am advocating booth. It is nice to BM seven and have that extra confidence and extra off and an extra hundred companies that recruit on campus. It is hard to quantify the difference because it’s different for every person. I would say if you were introverted, you’re not going to network like crazy. Call me a pessimist but it’s just not going to come natural to you and I feel the extra on campus recruiting could be worse a few dollars. At the same time perhaps being at Ross and being forced to network, will force you to be a better net worker and to engage with people more.
By the way, I would not worry about maintaining your GPA because it’s almost impossible to get below 3.0.
Also, I wouldn’t rush to take advanced classes. I made that mistake and wanted to learn and drink from the fire hydrant. That is not helpful. I forgot most of the advanced stuff and because I skipped a lot of the basics, I kind of got left with nothing at the end so I was much more recommend doing a lot of basic little things that would stick in your mind a lot better than company valuations and multiples that I kind of sexy but at the same time it will be years until you need to use those models. and by that time they will be outdated.
On the other hand, Ross does have great tech recruiting. You will have better chances at management consulting from Booth however but for management consulting he need to be very buttoned up and quick thinking on your feet to get through all the interviews and be client ready. They want you to impress their client and justify a very high billing rate.
However, I can tell you that you absolutely will do great at either school. Neither one of us will ever know whether you made the right or the wrong choice. 😂 this is a little bit of gambling mixed with some self confidence boost and personal risk aversion. I don’t know how young you are, but when I was doing my MBA I was very young and immature and I would’ve chosen booth. I was not concerned about payback or ROI, I wanted the best thing. You sound more mature which is good. Makes the choice harder though 😂 so much for wisdom and maturity ey?
