Hi all,
Over the past week, I received the incredible news that I got into HBS, GSB and Wharton Lauder ($95k). Now that the initial shock and disbelief has settled, I would love to get the community's thoughts on how I'm thinking about the programs.
Some background on me in case helpful:
Education: Top 25 University in US, International Male
Work Experience:2 years investment banking
2 years private equity
Post MBA Aspirations:Early stage tech venture capital (eventually in Europe) with focus on underrepresented founders
I've began exploring all available resources online and speaking with current students and alumni to make the decision. So far, I'm likely narrowing it to HBS and GSB (leaning towards the former for now), but my thoughts are:
HBS+ Large class size + tight-knit community through section experience
+ Large alumni network (meaningful in Europe especially)
+ Unparalleled international brand
+ Strong opportunities for tech and VC (outside of case method)
- Strictly case method might not be the best for more tech / VC oriented courses or getting practical experience
- Fixed curriculum in Y1
- Higher chance of competitiveness / pretentious feel
GSB+ Very introspective and inspirational students and faculty
+ Incredible opportunities and resources for tech and VC
+ Incredible brand
+ Taking classes "across the street"
+ Smaller class = more tight knit community
+ Proximity to Silicon Valley for networking
- Heard students are somewhat "checked out" from academics
- Lower brand strength in Europe
- Sparse network outside of SF / NYC, especially in Europe in VC
Wharton Lauder+ Large class size from Wharton + tight-knit community from Lauder
+ Large alumni network and domestic brand between UG and G
+ Flexible curriculum + no classes on Fridays
+ Europe focus through Lauder
+ SF campus
- Heard students are largely "checked out" from academics (party school brand)
- Meaningfully lower brand strength in Europe
- Weaker VC recruiting and network
- Higher focus on traditional careers in finance and consulting = less intellectual diversity (maybe?)
I would love to hear your thoughts on the best path forward and how you'd tackle the decision. Thank you very much in advance for the help!!
