I think IIMC is the more straightforward choice as it did not seem you were eager to stay in Europe or be outside of India.

Would you mind sharing if you applied to ISB, IIM A PGPX, and IIM B EPGP programs as well? If you did, what was your read on the interview panel's view on your profile? IIM C is good, but if you have cracked the IMD admit, I would expect you to have either ISB, IIM A, or B unless the timing of the application didn’t sit right (i.e., if you applied very late) or you seriously messed up the interview. So, I am very curious to know. IIM C is decent and a low-risk investment. You will find jobs, but most likely not what you are expecting. The best opportunities for experienced folks still go to the other schools, in my opinion. IIM C is more popular with the core IT segment with a lot of experience, and the placements also show that. IMD, although quite expensive, will be an experience of a lifetime. I understand if you are being cautious with the decision due to the high-risk investments, but certainly, there is no match between IMD and IIMC. If you are a bit of a go-getter, you will be set for a very rewarding global career after IMD in operations, supply chain design and analytics/ PM, or strategy and ops post-MBA. You will get a chance to sit with the recruiting teams of some of the best leadership programs in your field, as well as consulting interviews with MBB and the like. You won’t likely have these opportunities at IIMC.

Best wishes

I am
*Indian male 30 years
*mechanical engineer
*7 years in manufacturing: operations and projects (1 year international experience)
*I want to pivot into consulting, but I am OK with changing my function or industry as well

I have an admit from IIM Calcutta (MBAEx) for April 2025 and from IMD for Jan 2026.
IMD has given no scholarship as of now
Choosing IIM C ($40.5k includes everything) would be the comfortable choice as it's cheaper, domestic and has assisted placements.
IMD ($108k only tuition + 33k living), even with 50% scholarship, would be double the cost of IIMC, but has more international recognition (at least in Europe)

Since few of you in this forum might already have been through the same, I want to hear your thoughts on this.
PS: I am asking this on other relevant forums as well. Need all the help I can get to decide

I am not against it as well. I have no problem staying back in Europe for a long time if IMD can fulfill my career aspirations.

I'm not sure if IMD is much of a Consulting school unlike say an INSEAD. It is well recognized in Europe but not so much in Asia or America. I think you should base your decision on which country you see yourself settling down in long term. If it's Europe then go for IMD, and IIMC if it's India. I would pick IIMC.

McSmaky - congrats on the admits!

Since key differences between the two programs have been covered above, let me focus on how to make an optimal decision.

For candidates in the fortunate situation of deciding between two or more admits, I suggest making a simple Excel matrix.

Note down the key parameters (e.g. location, costs, alignment to career goals, placement scenario, international exposure, etc.) as columns. Then, score each program across these parameters. If you're unable to assign one score, assign a range. Then, make a weighted average of the parameters.

For example, if cost matters more to you than international exposure, assign more weightage there, and so on. At the end of this exercise, you'd likely see one program emerge as the clear winner, or at least a stronger preference. If there is a tie, introspect harder and reassign weights.

The goal of this exercise is to basically minimize the emotional or impulsive aspect of decision making, and focus on what parameters would justify the investment you'd make.

Hope this helps. All the best for your MBA journey ahead!

Regards,
Arvind

Europe will be significantly harder to succeed in. Thus if you are ambivalent, India makes a lot more sense.
