If you think balancing demanding investment banking hours and weekend community mentoring is tough, try throwing three GMAT attempts and multi-school application essays into the mix.
And that’s exactly how Durva paved her path to HEC Paris and ISB.
Growing up in Oman before moving to Mumbai to pursue commerce at Poddar College, Durva was no stranger to navigating different environments.
She dove straight into the rigorous CA path, completing an articleship at Deloitte.
Qualifying as a CA was a major milestone, but driven by her curiosity in corporate finance, she pivoted into Investment Banking at JP Morgan. Over the next three years, she advanced to Associate, managing cross-geographical transactions across Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, and Canada.
Beyond the demanding work hours, Durva spent her weekends actively engaging with the community. Whether it was distributing meals with the Robin Hood Army, or mentoring underprivileged students, her extracurriculars reflected a genuine drive to give back.
However, as her career progressed, she realized she wanted to move from executing financial strategies to actively formulating them. To bridge this gap and transition into consulting, she set her sights on a top-tier MBA. The path wasn’t seamless: it took three dedicated attempts to conquer the GMAT.
Armed with a 90th percentile on GMAT Focus (655), she focused on HEC Paris for its flexible 16-month curriculum and unique leadership opportunities, and ISB for its strong Indian presence.
