Tepper MBA InterviewDuration: 35-40 minutes
Format: By Invitation only
Who conducts them? Tepper interviews are conducted by members of the admissions committee or alumni.
Location: Most Tepper interviews are conducted virtually via Zoom, with only a limited number of slots available for in-person interviews. For these, there are two choices available. One, you can opt for a campus visit held on pre-allotted days (four Mondays during the interviewing cycle). If you sign up for this option, you will have an interview in the morning, followed by a campus visit in the afternoon.
The second option is to sign up and attend the Tepper Women in Business Leadership conference. You will have the on-campus interview, then attend the conference the next day.
Interview invitation timing: Interview invites are extended on a rolling basis all through the decision releases date. Sometimes applicants are placed on the waitlist without being interviewed in the round they applied and are invited to interview in subsequent rounds.
Interviewer’s access: Tepper interviews are not blind; the interviewer has read your application prior to the interview. Therefore, there could be questions about your experiences based on what you write in your essays and resume. While preparing for the interview, make sure you review your application thoroughly and can succinctly answer questions about anything you mentioned there.
Interview Process: Tepper does behavioral interviews, which means the interviewer asks questions to learn about your values, experiences and goals and how you fit with the Tepper community.
The tone of the interview is conversational, with generally no curveball questions.
The questions often begin with prompts like, “Tell me a time when....” Topics may include your leadership experiences, handling failure, managing team conflict, your significant achievements or failures. Your answers can be from both professional or community-based experiences. It's advisable to use recent examples (within the past three years) and structure your responses using the STAR method:
Situation: Describe the context.Task: Explain the challenge you faced in that situation.Action: Detail the steps you took.Result: Share the outcomes and what impact you were able to create. At the end, add what you learned from this situation or how it shaped you.Sample questions from the Tepper interview:Introduction questions:Walk me through your resume/ Introduce yourself.
