they don't.
there are tons of reasons but here is a few:
1-an online 'phd' costs you $$$
2-i don't think there are any AACSB accredited PhD programs
3-without accreditation your doctorate is worthless
4-i can't see how you can conduct serious research without access to libraries, computing facilities & labs, human interaction with others, etc.
5-since your focus is teaching, and not research, how are you going to do teaching practicums online?
6-you won't get any of the college experience, and you will be shell shocked if you ever get a gig as a lecturer... working as an academic is not the same thing as working in industry.
