I took the GMAT a few days ago and got a 760 (Q49/V47), but got a 5 on IR (52nd percentile). I expect a high mark on AWA.
Would the 5 on IR merit a retake? Here are some personal details that may come into play:
- Won't be applying to business school until ~2018 as I just graduated from college (perhaps schools will start taking the IR section more seriously; also, what if a 5 on IR drops below 50th percentile by this time?)
- I want to attend a top 10 (hopefully 5) business school program
- 3.8 GPA in Economics at a top 25 school
- Will be working as an analyst in the investment banking division of a bulge bracket bank for ~2 years
- The grand majority of analysts from my office exit to private equity firms, where they spend another 2-3 years, after which most apply to business school (I hope to do this, though it's no guarantee)
I've been called ridiculous by the other people I've posed this question to. Some say I'm bragging (I swear to you that I am not). I hope that an expert will understand where I'm coming from.
I'm very satisfied with my overall score, but I don't want the lower IR score to tarnish the overall GMAT score. From what I understand, things can get extremely competitive once you get into the top 10 or 5 business school application processes, and I need to know whether to focus on my career or to spend an extra month or two grinding out a better GMAT score to cover this potential weakness in my profile.
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S., I used
Magoosh to prepare for the GMAT (alongside Manhattan and OG), and found it really helpful for practice. The videos that accompany every problem solution really made
Magoosh worth my money and time. Thanks
