Today, I gave m01 test and got 33 correct but only 84.8%-tile. can some one tell how i fared on this test. my target quant score is 51 - nothing less than that !!!

33 out of 37 is not bad at all.. Probably a scaled score of 50.. If perform as well on the quants section of the real GMAT and get a scaled score of 40+ on the verbal, then you would surely be on your way to a 740+ score.
are these tests adaptive ? does the difficulty varies as the test number progress i.e. is m01 less difficult than (say) m10 ?

The paid tests are adaptive. The tests are not supposed to be different from one another in terms of difficulty. But I did find my score improving with each test. I do not know whether I can attribute that to me answering better or to the tests getting easier.
