I remember reading on it a couple of years back a salary comparison between various professions, in particular consulting v/s banking (ib as well as sales and trading). It seems similar reports are very hard to access to now, needs a gold membership. If someone has access can you shed some light on this comparison, a few years out of school ? What is the difference like and does it converge ?
Guys, the paid Vault reports are copyrighted so they can't be reproduced here. If you want to get a sense of salaries, take a look at schools' careers web pages which should have pretty good info on salary and bonuses for different industries. Generally, as you go higher in the organization, the disparity in pay between bankers and consultants is going to get much bigger.
Ahh ! Thats basically what I wanted to know. I have pretty good idea of pay scales in finance, just wasn't sure if the consultants can keep up with similar scales with seniority. At the MBA grad level, both seem to be paying similar base packages at least
Do consultancies pay year end bonuses (on a lower scale) or none at all ? A matching base pay is pretty good especially given the recent increase in pay scale across the board in banks.
glassdoor.com is a decent place to look up salary info but remember it is self reported so it may or may not be completely accurate.

Quite a fun site to browse, but I think the "may or may not be completely accurate" thing hit me when I saw the average salary for MDs at JPM as 110k and the maximum as 200k

Remember banks have bonuses that make up way more of their income. Plus people dont have to prove they work for a company or make a given salary.
