A poll with N people were interviewed. If 1/4 of them answered "YES" to Q1 and of those 1/3 answered "YES" to Q2 in terms of N what is the number of people who were interviewed who did not answer "YES" to both the questions.

P.N.

My analysis is whether its 1/3 of N/4 OR is it N/ 3 istself in either way i cannot seem get the ans.

I got 5/3N

1/4N ans yes to Q1, thus 3/4N ans no to Q1

1/3(1/4N) ans yes to Q1, thus 11/12N ans no to Q2

3/4N + 11/12N = 5/3N

1/12(N) answer Q1 as well as Q2. 1-1/12=number of ppl who answer Q1 or Q2.

the OA is 11N/12

Can either of you explain how its got I still dont get it

I know the indivdual total for every Q has to be N in essence there are 2N replies totally.

1/3*1/4=1/12. so 1/12 answer "yes" to both questions and 11/12 do not answer "yes" to both questions. draw a venn diagram. the intersection contains 1/12.

3N/4 could not say YES to Q1.
Of the remaining N/4 , 2/3*N/4 could not say YES for Q2.(typo Q1 earlier)

Hence the total would could not say YES to either Q1 or Q2 is
3N/4 + N/6 = 11N/12.
