Hi Janielle,

Thank you for your response. I agree that I have a large knowledge gap. I've been working on this by going through each Quant book in MGMAT and it seems to be helping. I still have to go through Geometry, Word Problems and Algebra. I am actually looking for a comprehensive (Quant and Verbal) solution but would like to focus my studies more on the Quant section. To answer your questions:

1. My target score is 700+ or as high as I can possibly get
2. I plan on taking it middle of March, however my date is flexible. I am willing to take it multiple times but I'd rather just take it once.
3. I have not taken a full CAT, just the Quant portion. I will be taking a full CAT mimicking test conditions either this weekend or next weekend. I did the OG 16 diagnostic and I scored above average on Problem Solving, average on DS and above average on all the Verbal sections. I knew from the get go Quant would be my weak point as I haven't taken a standardized test in many years and rely on excel for everything.

To Bill,

I will look into your plan. Right now, I am following Magoosh 3 month plan that is Quant focused and supplementing it with the MGMAT subject books.

Hi socalmbahopeful,

You have plenty of time on your hands, so you CAN achieve your target score.
Do post your scores of the Mock CAT that you sit for. Also make sure that you mimic the exact test conditions and take the test including the AWA and IR

So I took a practice CAT today from GMAC and mimicked testing conditions.

Results are disappointing but I am ready to buckle down and get my score where it needs to be.

AWA: Bad - I looked at a sample outline, followed it and tried my best. I'm not great at writing within a short time limit, will have to work on this.

IR: 3 I hadn't practiced a single IR question before the test

Q 36 :( super shocking, was hoping for a low 40 score. I've been studying Quant and have seen improvement on practice problems. Unfortunately, didn't translate into a decent Quant score. I will look at the answers tomorrow and put them into my error log. During the test, I almost ran out of time and had to guess on the last 3-4.

V 35 .. Not bad. Only prep for verbal i've done is the diagnostic and a handful of sentence correction/reading comprehension. I almost took this blind.

Total Score: 600.

I've got a long way to go but I am willing to put in the work. I really need to work on my mental stamina, not used to sitting and doing problems for 3.5 hours.

That is a decent first mock score and a good Verbal score. We have a clear picture now of the areas we need to work.
In the Quants section, analyse the test and try to dig deep:

PS/DS should be the first level. Then trey to find out the specific areas which troubled you such as Numbers, Algebra, Geometry etc.
In your last post you said that you did not complete the theory of certain sections.
Did you complete it before appearing for the mock?

Yep.. i'll narrow down all the questions I got wrong in my error log. I still haven't gone through Geometry, word problems and algebra. I think I need more practice on number properties even though i've read through the book. But for now I am drowning my disappointment with alcohol.

You do not need to be disappointed with the CAT scores. These scores help you understand you mistakes and improve them.
Make sure you go through all the concepts and chapters before taking the next CAT.
