My GMAT score is
GMAT 730 (97%) Q:47 82%, V: 44 97%

While my Verbal is quite up there, I am not sure how to interpret my Quant result. Is it average or above average or what?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

very good! congrats! over 700 is an accomplishment in itself.. yes i've heard as long as you have 80/80 you should be fine =)

Cat your link answered it all.

Looking at the statistics that they sent with my score report, and based on the 80/80 preference, one may conclude that top schools only view about 20% of GMAT test takers as potential applicants.

General success (acceptance) rate is about 15% on average, so for the 20% of GMAT test takers (80/80's and above) the score is just a minor part of the application! Adcoms are right.
