To find:
• From 2000 to 2002, the number of asthmatic children in a certain city increased by what percentage?
Analysing Statement 1
• As per the information provided in statement 1, in 2000, 10% of the children in the city were asthmatic
- o From this statement, we cannot determine the exact number of asthmatic children in either of 2000 or 2002
Analysing Statement 2
• As per the information provided in statement 2, in 2002, 12% of the children in the city were asthmatic
- o From this statement, we cannot determine the exact number of asthmatic children in either of 2000 or 2002
Combining Both Statements
• If we combine both the statements, we only have the respective percentages of asthmatic children in each of the year 2000 and 2002
- o But we don’t have their exact values neither the total population in those 2 years

Statement (1): insufficient. This only provides information about 2000, so it can't be sufficient. Eliminate choices (A) and (D).
Statement (2): insufficient. This only provides information about 2002, so it can't be sufficient. Eliminate (B).
Statements (1) and (2): insufficient. Since the total number of children in the city may have changed from 2000 to 2002, we cannot assume that the increase in the number of asthmatic children was 12% - 10% = 2%. There is no way to calculate the number of asthmatic children in each of the two years, and thus we do not have sufficiency. Choice (E) is correct.
