There are a total of 3 sets of 4 parallel lines each.
In each set, a different pair of parallel lines can be picked in 4C2 or 6 ways.
So, in 3 sets, different ways will be 3*6 or 18 ways.

Say you are holding a cube with your palms on two opposite faces. Now we begin counting the edges of the cube
Considering vertical edges that are parallel to our palms= 4
Considering horizontal edges that are parallel to our palms = 4
Considering horizontal edges that are perpendicular to our palms = 4
For each of them, we have to choose two parallel edges hence we have 4C2 = 6
Since we have 3 such combinations total pairs would be 6 x 3 = 18
Option A
