Let the unknown value be x

Grape:Pineapple:Orange
2:7:3

total units=2+7+3=12

Total units of orange =21

3x/12=21
x=84

Now, for pineapple
7*84/12=49

so if there are 21 ounces of orange juice in the punch, let x be the total ounces of the punch, then
3x/12=21, then x=84.
pineapples =7/12 * 84 =49.

Answer is therefore D.

Multiply the ratio by 7. It becomes 14:21:49. Hence for 21 ounces of orange, 49 ounces of pineapples are there

A certain punch contains grape juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice and no other ingredients in a ratio of 2: 3: 7 respectively. If a bowl of this punch contains 21 ounces of orange juice, how many ounces of pineapple juice does it contain

A. 12
B. 14
C. 21
D. 49
E. 84

The ratio of grape juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice is
G:O:P = 2x : 3x : 7x

So when 3x = 21 ounces of Orange juice, the pineapple juice \(= 7 * \frac{21}{3} = 49\) ounces of juice

Answer (D).

Competition Mode Question

A certain punch contains grape juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice and no other ingredients in a ratio of 2: 3: 7 respectively. If a bowl of this punch contains 21 ounces of orange juice, how many ounces of pineapple juice does it contain

A. 12
B. 14
C. 21
D. 49
E. 84

We can represent the amount of grape juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice by 2x, 3x, and 7x, respectively, for some x. Since there are 21 ounces of OJ, we have:

3x = 21

x = 7

Thus, there are 7 * 7 = 49 ounces of pineapple juice.
